Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registrar.

In this role, the successful candidate accurately obtains all pertinent patient demographics and financial information to properly record episode and to maximize reimbursement for the medical center.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Accurate data collection and data entries.
    • Demonstrates adaptability by adjusting well to changes in staff scheduling.
    • Demonstrates ability to recognize, establish and set priorities, and strives to make good use of time during assigned shift through careful coordination of daily tasks.
    • Recognizes problems and seeks solutions as appropriate and is able to determine if a problem should be referred to a Supervisor or requires follow up.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all patients, and communicates ideas, problems, suggestions and messages in a timely and effective manner.
    • Cooperates and communicates with all Hospital staff including physicians, patients, their families and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary departments and physicians offices in order to expedite the registration and process to avoid negative financial impact on the facility.
    • Answers telephone and respond to inquiries for the department.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Follows up with patients and their Primary Care Physicians regarding referrals and enters referral and preauthorization information into the appropriate system(s).
    • Collects and applies payments for self-pay, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance into the appropriate system(s) for the Hospital.
    • Utilizes online insurance verification systems to determine coverage, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance or other patient liabilities.
    • Supplies each patient and/or their representative with all required pertinent documents.
    • Explains thoroughly all forms and obtains and witnesses all required signatures on consents and financial agreements.
    • Interviews patients upon their arrival and update all personal and insurance information.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of Patient Bill of Rights, Advance Directives and Financial Assistance Program.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of third party billing and have the ability to thoroughly answer patient inquiries pertaining to Outpatient Services.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or Equivalent required. Working knowledge/familiarity with basic medical terminology is required. Strong customer service and computer skills required. Type 45 WPM.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual preferred. Associate's Degree in Business. 2-3 years of previous experience in Admitting, Registration, or hospital/physician billing with knowledge of managed care and referral/pre-certification procedures.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $24.90 - $26.31 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
