Job Description

Freestyle Languages seeks language instructors who are enthusiastic about our communicative approach and flipped classroom model and who desire ongoing professional development. Instructors will work closely with our team and Founder/Executive Director to continually build teaching skills which support our model, bridge the language gap and foster equity and inclusivity in the classroom and the world!

Responsibilities

Instructional:

  • Prepare thoroughly for each class, including reviewing each day’s course materials on the online platform: prep videos, exercises, etc. to be fully up to date on all content previously developed by Freestyle
  • Provide instruction for such assigned class or classes following the Freestyle methodologies
  • Communicate promptly, closely with Course Coordinators regarding weekly lesson plans, session starts, end of session options / next courses, etc;
  • Communicates promptly, closely with all learners regarding attendance, level assessments (during adds / drops, etc.); assisted by Course Coordinators
  • Attend 1 community/language learning event per month (1 hr. monthly); instructors take turns leading events to ensure learners get the most out of the learning experience
  • Lead Conversation Coaching: 1 hour per week (akin to ‘office hours’)
  • Attend at least 1 PD / team training event per month (1 hr. monthly) and our bi-annual half-day learnings (3-4 hours)

Other:

  • Communicates and collaborates with the team in a timely manner via email, Zoom chat, and Asana
  • Providing all computer equipment and connectivity required to provide the instruction online

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to instruct both Spanish & English classes
  • Must have at least advanced proficiency in Spanish
  • Holds at least a Bachelor’s Degree in the target language or Education with at least 2 years of formal teaching experience, or native speaker with teaching certificate and/or with at least 2+ years of formal teaching experience, including online teaching
  • Is familiar with the Flipped Classroom Model
  • Understands L2 pedagogy, including adult learning challenges such as the affective filter
  • Possesses a dynamic personality with positive energy, able to represent a brand
  • Desires continual professional growth and open to pedagogy coaching and improvement
  • Can commit to at least 1 year
  • Flexible availability required to accommodate course hours - Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 8:45 pm Central and Saturdays 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Central
  • Each course duration is generally 2-3 months, 2-3 days a week, and 1 hour and 15 minutes per class

Pay

  • Training Rate: $16/hr
  • Teaching Rate: Starting rate at $22/hr
  • Non-Instructional/Admin. Rate: $18/hr (e.g. meetings, emails, etc.)

Employment Eligibility Verification

If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 form.
