Hours: Full-time
Salary Range: $175,000-190,000/annually
Status:Exempt

Overview of the role

The Vice President of Community Philanthropy will be responsible for leading the vision, strategy, and management of the organization’s Community Philanthropy team, which includes teams focused on mid-level donors ($1k-$24,999K), Trevor Fund (donors giving below $1,000), and social (or peer to peer) fundraising.

Who You Are

  • Experienced. Demonstrated successful experience in leading direct response fundraising programs with complex omni channel campaigns raising $10M+ as well as social or peer to peer fundraising programs across multiple platforms including streaming. Demonstrated successful experience working collaboratively to utilize complex technology systems to achieve goals and scale programs including but not limited to automation and data analysis. Long-term responsibilities include overseeing the performance and development of the team and working collaboratively with leaders across the organization to drive innovation so the organization can end LGBTQ youth suicide. The Vice President will need to be a strong, tactical manager as well as an inspirational leader.
  • People Manager Experienced people manager of a team with proven success in training, leading, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of direct reports. Proven experience successfully leading the team to grow and sustain fundraising revenue. Clearly communicates goals and priorities inwardly and outwardly, engaging staff in the execution of responsibilities, and creates open channels of communication and feedback while ensuring team members are accountable for achieving outcomes. Demonstrated track record of communicating organizational decisions, policies, and processes in perspective, keeping the organization’s best interest at the heart of all communications, decisions, and actions.
  • Strategic Thinking and Analysis. Demonstrated success with reviewing and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative fundraising data to drive decision-making and problem-solving, unearthing relevant insights and opportunities. Proven ability to translate big-picture vision and broad programmatic aspirations into actionable goals, milestones, and deliverables with clear owners and timelines. Offers experience formulating and testing hypotheses, creating frameworks for decision-making, and forging a path forward in the face of ambiguity and complexity; able to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing landscape and move with a sense of urgency to get things done.
  • Collaborator. Proven collaborator who approaches all work and interactions with empathy and inclusion both internally and externally with vendors and donors. Recognized success in creating relationships with cross-functional teams including marketing, communications, and content from varying levels, working closely with colleagues to brainstorm ideas, discuss pros/cons, and develop ways forward. Proven ability to listen and respond to develop mutual understanding and trust. Experienced in fostering an environment where different opinions and approaches can be entertained, considered, and appreciated while working as a team to find a resolution.
  • Communicator. Demonstrated ability to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms including developing compelling fundraising messaging and communications. Proven skill in distilling complex information into compelling, easily digestible narratives; presents information in an inspiring and persuasive way. Skilled at conveying technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Focused on service delivery and adaptability. Demonstrates a commitment to assuring that we provide outstanding internal and external service to our donors, our colleagues, the individuals we serve, and those with whom we collaborate and communicate. Proven focus on proactive and inclusive issue resolution and continuous improvement for all systems and processes. Demonstrated flexibility in the midst of change, being able to successfully juggle multiple deliverables, and adapting to new situations with fresh ideas or innovative approaches.
  • Mission and Culture Aligned: Demonstrates awareness and support for The Trevor Project’s mission and vision: to end suicide and address mental health crises in the LGBTQ youth community, and create a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves.


What You'll Do

  • Establish a clear vision and strategy that enables The Trevor Project to maintain and grow our community philanthropy revenue and both retain and grow our donor and fundraiser community
  • Serve as a partner to the Vice President of Partnerships & Philanthropy, the Vice President of Development Operations and other stakeholders across the organization to develop cross-team collaborations that optimize revenue sustainability and Trevor’s profile with our community of supporters
  • Work collaboratively to utilize complex technology systems to achieve goals and develop strategies to scale fundraising programs sustainably.
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative fundraising data to drive decision-making and problem-solving, unearthing relevant insights and opportunities.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and manage a team of people managers and staff to effectively lead, collaborate, and deliver on organizational fundraising goals, partner effectively across the organization, and ensure that all donors and partners have a meaningful and positive experience with The Trevor Project.
  • Oversee priority projects, campaigns, and strategies, providing clear input on some and leading on others
  • Oversee vendor relationships and manage the expense budget for the Community Philanthropy team.
  • Represent the organization in speaking engagements, conferences, and other opportunities
  • Other relevant tasks, duties, or special projects as assigned
