JOB SUMMARY:
Yarn Operators are responsible for production of wool on the Carding Machines and yarn on the Spinning Frames
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
— Monitor cards while running
— Take weights on roving
— Clean cards
— Blow down cards
— Change out spools of roving
— Lift and move 30 pound spools
— Pick back on spools
— Load extended feeds
— Replace or repair Carding rolls workers, stripper’s fancies
— Splice in spools
— Doff spinning frames
— Pick up full bobbins
— Put down empty bobbins
— Take weights on roving
— Weighing baskets of yarn
— Cleaning spinning frames
— Patrolling of the spinning frames
— Pick back on spools
— Splicing broken ends together
— Making color samples
— Changing of draft gear

- Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess basic math skills
- Working knowledge of the Standard system and ability to work with exacting measurements
- Ability to work with programmable scale controllers
- Ability to read and write legibly in English
- Good verbal communication skills
- Capable of working independently and in a team
- Able to work independently with limited supervision
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk the entire shift
- Ability to work with arms fully extended and in overhead locations
- Ability to climb, crouch, crawl and kneel to work on and around carding machine and spinning frames
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly, and 50 pounds occasionally
Experience/Education:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 2 or more years of production experience
- Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Production Mill, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, kneepads, face shields, gloves and gloves
