FY24 - Librarian, Electronic Resources


 

LACC is seeking applicants for a full-time, 10-month, tenure track faculty Librarian position to begin in the Fall 2023 semester. The assignment may include working on campus, online, hybrid, hyflex, offsite, and/or evenings and weekends. This position will be part of a collaborative team that provides information resources and reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will be tech savvy and current in the discipline with a passion for information literacy and a demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population.

MINIMUM/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science;
  • OR the equivalent from an accredited college or university; AND
  • $ads={1}

    A demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant's expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment.

Eligibility Requirement: COVID 19 VACCINATION

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience managing library service platforms, such as Alma and Primo.
  • Experience with evaluating and recommending purchases for the library’s physical and digital collections.
  • Experience with cataloging and classification of the library’s physical and digital materials.
  • Knowledge of current information literacy instruction and reference practices.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed,
  • Ability to communicate positively with students, faculty and administration,
  • Ability to establish positive community partnerships to build effective bridges,
  • Ability to function and collaborate in a collegial working environment,
  • Interest and ability in department level leadership role,
  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program,

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following):
  • Manage the Alma and Primo platforms in collaboration with other LACCD colleges.
  • Maintain the library’s integrated library system (ILS) to ensure reliable access to library collections.
  • Manage the budget and purchases for library collections.
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, LACCD colleagues, and vendors.
  • Manage the cataloging of digital and physical collections.
  • Lead collection development activities, including selection and deselection of the library’s physical and digital materials.
  • Recommend online and print sources for purchase by the library.
  • Provide input in the selection of library’s electronic resources.
  • Provide reference service to students, faculty and staff, both in-person and online.
  • Conduct library instruction sessions in collaboration with classroom faculty or develop information literacy workshops.
  • Collaborate with fellow librarians to promote library services and resources.
  • Provide training and work directions to library staff and student workers.
  • Collaborate with the department chair and librarians in administrative requirements such as program reviews, assessment, statistical recordkeeping, self-evaluation reports for accreditation, and accessibility documentation.
  • Support website maintenance, including creating and managing content in LibApps.
  • Serve as an active participant on campus committees.
  • Motivate and inspire students by engaging them in the learning process using a variety of teaching methods; creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Staying current in the discipline and teaching standards / techniques; participate in professional development activities.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide activities including, but not limited to; outreach, recruitment, student celebrations, commencement, convocation, and other events.
  • Assess and further develop the department’s mission to advance student equity and eliminate equity gaps in student success.
  • Assume other departmental and college duties as assigned by the department chair.

REMOTE LEARNING

Faculty may be required to conduct library instruction sessions or interact with students in a virtual learning environment using Canvas, Zoom, LibChat or other methods of remote learning. Applicants with demonstrated certification in Canvas or other online modalities may be given preference.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The current starting range is from $66,220 to $103,100 for the 10- month academic year depending on education and experience. The doctoral differential is $4,180 per academic year. The District provides an excellent benefit package including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents. Optional assignments may include summer and winter intersessions.

  • Copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts. At time of application, transcript must include degree confirmation as listed in minimum requirements. Unofficial transcripts are accepted. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

  • A college selection committee will review all complete applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness as determined from the application package and recommendations from professional references.
  • Following the committee screening, selected candidates will be invited for an interview and classroom teaching demonstration.
  • Based upon the committee recommendation, finalists will interview with the president and vice president, who will make the final selection and references will be contacted.

Note: Hiring will depend on availability of funding. The District does not provide expense reimbursement for those invited to interviews.
