LA Voice Action, LA Voice’s 501 c (4) affiliate organization, was founded in 2018 with a mission to turn the power of faith voices in Los Angeles County into transformative wins for our communities. To achieve this, we carry out deep, year-round voter engagement efforts that are building a powerful, faithful voting bloc that turns out in every single election, no matter how large or small.

Job Overview:

The Communications Assistant supports the development and implementation of a communications strategy that will be integrated across all organizational programming, materials, and outreach. The Communications Assistant will work closely with the Communications Director to build the narrative and digital power of LA Voice and LA Voice Action, elevating the voices of marginalized communities and communities of faith with a strong coordinated presence in the public arena.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, exceptional problem-solving and time management skills, 1-3 years of communications experience, basic multimedia and/or graphic design experience, and basic familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, and Slack. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who wants to grow their skills in communications within a growing organization that is impacting positive, systemic change in Los Angeles County.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the Communications Director in the development and implementation of organizational branding and messaging strategy that amplifies the work of LA Voice
  • Support the execution of internal and external communications strategies, in particular with graphic design and social media support
  • Support the execution of online organizing strategies that complement our on-the-ground organizing to reach our constituencies and move people to action
  • Assist with social media, website, and email communication and maintenance
  • Support and execute shared communications and fundraising efforts and strategies
  • Support the Communications Director in the development and management of communications strategy for our affiliated 501c(4) organization, LA Voice Action
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in communications, preferably in a nonprofit and/or social-change environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, and Slack
  • Excellent time management skills: able to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and conscientious about work quality
  • Fluency in Spanish (reading and writing)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a creative and innovative team
  • Ability to travel around Los Angeles County to support programmatic events and organizing

Other Possible Qualifications:

  • Graphic design and/or multimedia skills a plus
  • Community Organizing experience
  • Experience working with faith-based communities
  • Fluency in Spanish or other language related to our work
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher-level degree in communications, graphic design, or other related field
  • Personal life experience with the issues we focus on immigration status, affordable housing, homelessness, or the criminal justice system

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Full-time non-exempt position
  • The job includes some evening and weekend work.
  • Hybrid position; the employee is able to work from home but must be able to report to the office or other locations and events. Employees must be available for in-person meetings and campaign efforts.
  • The salary range is $55,000-$65,000 depending upon experience and demonstrated skill.
  • Benefits include a comprehensive health plan, generous personal days, a 5% matching 401(k), and a monthly wellness stipend.
