As a Patient Access Representative, you are the face of Cedars-Sinai and can make a difference for our patients. You will be responsible for registering patients presenting to the medical center for treatment. Your priority is to deliver high quality and effective service to our patients and their family members.
What will you be doing in this role?
The Patient Access Representative I (PAR I) performs a variety of Patient Access activities for patients throughout the Medical Center for Inpatient, Outpatient and/or Emergency Services.
Patient Access Representatives are responsible for providing patients with a welcoming experience, while facilitating patient’s access to care. The Patient Access Representatives are cross trained to support roles and responsibilities throughout Patient Access, Scheduling, Pre-Registration, Financial Clearance, Referrals, Authorizations, Financial Counseling, and Patient Arrival & Registration.
The Patient Access Representative must have thorough knowledge and understanding of insurance policies and procedures to determine insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements, Third Party Liability (TPL), Medi-Cal / Medicare eligibility verification, Workers Compensation eligibility, provide patient estimates, determine patient liability and secure cash deposits (co-pays, deductibles, cash packages). Ability to secure signatures on all required forms and answer any questions and clearly explain all documents.
Patient Access Representatives must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with patients and clinical staff effectively. Must demonstrate competencies and knowledge while performing job duties, interact with sensitivity and attention to the patient population(s) served. Must have the ability to promote positive customer service while working in a highly demanding and complex environment.
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 2 years college preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills for interacting with patients, payers, physicians and other CSHS customers.
- Intermediate math skills.
- Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with conflicting demands on time and attention.
- PC literacy: Basic core computer skills and navigation skills.
- English language proficiency. Bi-lingual preferred / helpful.
Other skills we are looking for:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in healthcare, insurance, or related experience.
- Previous work experience in an inpatient or outpatient admissions setting or physician's office.
- Knowledge / experience in patient accounting or with an insurance payor.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Physical Demands:
Employee must be able to:
- sit at a desk or table with some walking, standing, bending, stooping, or carrying of light objects
- perform continuous operation of a computer for more than 4 hours and utilize keyboard to continuously type throughout shift
- use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate objects and/or operate equipment.
- bend/twist, crouch, stoop, stretch, crawl and climb stairs or ladders.
- bend upper torso and reach up and out with hands and arms
- balance the body while walking, standing, crouching, or stooping to prevent falling.
- perform unaided lifting of objects up to 20 lbs
- work from a portable device/mobile workstation approximately 50% of their scheduled shift to do data entry at bedside if assignment requires it.
