Full-time position available with the Health Department, Environmental Services Division located at 2400 Troost Ave and the Water Department, Revenue Protection Division located at 4800 East 63rd Street
Salary Range: $18.61-$29.39/hour

Responsibilities


Health:

  • Performs specific duties, as assigned by an administrative superior, which requires access to confidential information.
  • Independence of action and judgment are commensurate with advancement in experience and knowledge gained through a variety of administrative, research and allied activities.
  • Work is evaluated through review of duties performed, results obtained and conferences with superiors.
  • Answers phone calls, helps walk-in customers, assists with setting up appointments for lead screenings, works on contracts for lead programs, and reports writing.

Water:

  • Provides administrative support to the Revenue Protection Division by assisting in the collection of delinquent accounts and bad debt.
  • Performs basic clerical duties, such as answering phones, using computers for database management or word processing, setting up and managing filing systems, operating office equipment, completing forms, scheduling appointments, and making copies.
  • Provides customer service by verifying and updating customer account information, reminding customers of their past due status, negotiating payments, and assisting the Call Center with consumer phone calls.
  • Supports the employees in the field by generating service orders for high dollar delinquent turnoffs and generating work orders as directed by field personnel and management.
  • Contributes to collection of revenue by creating legal collection letters, reviewing returned payments for service turnoff, and prepares liens, lien releases, and legal packets for bad debt accounts, as well as assign appropriate fees and adjustment to accounts.

Qualifications


REQUIRES high school graduation and 3 years of increasingly responsible secretarial and/or clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
