TRIAD AmeriCorps - Half-Time


 
TRIAD Service AmeriCorps focuses on providing support for economically disadvantage youth with disabilities through health education. TRIAD Service AmeriCorps members serve the partnering school districts in Forrest, Lamar, Covington, Harrison and Hancock Counties. This year, 34 young people with and without disabilities will serve the community through TRIAD Service AmeriCorps. Members will continue to provide various community service with local non-profits (animal shelters, salvation army, homelessness, prepare food for underprivileged families, pantry's, and etc . . .) and being involved in various environmental clean ups with local parks, gardens, community gardens, beaches and on the campus of University of Southern Mississippi. The members will participate in health education activities by going into the local high schools and middle schools to train youth with disabilities on exercise and nutritional goals. Using the HealthMatters curriculum, the program will incorporate the following principles of: • choice, self-determination, self-efficacy, self-advocacy, rights and responsibilities • learning practical exercise routines and stress management coping skills • identifying foods that make up a well-balanced diet • locating places to exercise • improving self-advocacy skills to promote good choices in staying healthy Training, Resources, and Information for the Advancement of Disability (TRIAD) Service AmeriCorps, a program of the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, is funded through the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service.

Member Duties : Duties : a. Receive in-person or virtual training on HealthMatters Curriculum b. Provide health education in-person or virtual training during the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F approximately 20-25 hours a week as scheduled by TRIAD staff and other days and times as needed. c. Train youth with disabilities on health education initiatives and help to establish healthy lifestyles. d. Participate in physical/virtual recreational activities with youth with disabilities e. Assist in the implementation of community service projects. f. Assist with transporting AmeriCorps members g. Attend all Corps trainings, as well as any MCVS or CNCS trainings. h. Submit all paperwork-monthly timesheets, reports, etc. in a timely manner. i. Report to service site, IDS, regularly (cannot just be virtual or only do outside service unless under extenuating circumstances)
