Position overview:
The Certified Safety Professional serves as a technical consultant and authoritative expert in OSHA compliance, working with applicable ANSI safety standards and OSHA regulations, walking-working surfaces, fall protection, and elevated work surfaces to perform inspections, conducts testing, and make recommendations.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Conduct a risk inspections.
- Describe the existing condition of the roof(s), including materials/composition, structural quality, and design load limit.
- Note the existing fall hazards and any existing fall protection equipment or components. Include photos as part of the documentation.
- Prepare a written inspection report for each facility inspected to include observations, interview notes, photographic documentation, conclusions about existing conditions and equipment, and recommendations (as appropriate) to make the facility compliant with applicable ANSI safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Determine if the existing systems fulfill the intended purpose for façade access or roof fall protection and cover the areas requiring access. Evaluate the adequacy of available fall clearance for the existing fall protection system components. Determine if the existing façade access or fall protection systems can be accessed and set up in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Train in fall protection and equipment use for the associated locations and/or conditions or equipment identified
- Review GSA construction project designs involving elevated work areas such as roofs, balconies, catwalks, stairs, ladders, equipment platforms, etc., for fall protection features and applicable ANSI safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Comprehensive assessment of the work site to identify potential fall hazards and determine the appropriate measures necessary to mitigate those hazards.
- Coordinate site visits to one or more GSA facilities in advance through the COR and the GSA facility management office.
- Test the equipment, devices, or components as required by applicable ANSI safety standards and OSHA regulations and the manufacturer's recommendations.
Required education, knowledge and skills:
- Bachelors Degree in construction or safety related field required
- Certified Safety Professional
- Experience in OSHA compliance, working with applicable ANSI safety standards and OSHA regulations, walking-working surfaces, fall protection, and elevated work surfaces.
- 5 years' related experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Travel required to site inspections
- Knowledge of the fundamental engineering principles, concepts and practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of site planning, building design and construction means, methods and codes, scheduling, material and labor cost estimating sufficient to evaluate general compliance environmental health, safety and protection requirements.
- Average agility and dexterity. Duties will include moderate walking over rough, uneven or slippery surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heave objects less than 50 lbs. and regular visits to construction sites.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check
- Ability to acquire a security clearance.
